Sunrise 2001, viewed from Diamond Head Volcano Crater State Park
We have had the habit for the last couple of years of viewing the first sunrise of the new year. Last year we viewed from a beach on one of the military bases. It was a good sunrise in that you could see it from the horizon.

This year's sunrise was not as visible due to some weather activity over the Pacific east of Oahu. But the dozens of us who climbed the extinct volcano knew that if we waited long enough, we would see the sun. The wait turned out to be worth it, too. And if it hadn't, at least we were on top of the volcano rim overlooking Honolulu.

You might like to take a stroll back down the volcano into the crater. If so, Click Here.
