Our idea for bringing in the new year was to see, tape, and photograph the sunrise on Jan. 1, 2000. We set up at 6:30 a.m. at a park with a view of Diamond Head Volcano (that's it above, and you can see it in the enlargements of the thumbnails at left) and Honolulu's skyline. We were greeted about an hour later with the sunrise. The VCR recorded most of the hour's wait. It was no Blair Witch Project, but it was a good way to remember 2000, plus it got us in the March 29, 2000, Midweek "What's Next" column. Clicking on the thumbnails at the left opens a larger version of the photo (all taken by Debbie). You can see the skyline of Honolulu at the left of the volcano, almost under the palm tree leaves.
