Diamond Head Volcano Crater State Park
One of the after-effects of the volcanic eruptions that created the Hawaiian Islands was Diamond Head Volcano.

Now a beautiful state park, the walls of the rim were once important lookouts for enemy activities during World War II...and perhaps many years previous to the discovery of the islands by Europeans. A mile-long path leads to one of the pillboxes dotting the rim, from which visitors can view Honolulu to the west and other sections of the city to the east.

This group of photos starts at the top and ends at the bottom. They were taken during our January 1, 2001, sunrise walk.
