The information used in this report was gleaned from most of the following sites. Most were credited on the pages they appeared, some with links, some not. The links to the sites gathered here open in new browser windows.
Maynard’s CoffeeHouse—Bob Denver, of Gilligan's Island and The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis fame, was perhaps the original television beatnik. Bob and his wife, Dreama, have kept alive the memory of Bob's many roles, including the bongo-beating Maynard G. Krebs, at this colorful and multi-leveled site.
Beatniks and Beat-Flicks—Lists many movies that featured beatniks, complete with a review of the movie, its beatnik characteristics, and more. Everything from Funny Face to Hairspray, lots of fun.
Mamborama—A group of dedicated amateur musicians who don't mind giving away some of their music on places like MP3.com. If you have never heard Cuban music, these guys can give you a primer. Check out their MP3s at MP3.com-Mamborama—and be sure your bongos are close by!
Hot Salsa—This site bills itself as the "dictionary of salsa," and contains about as much information about Cuban music as I could stand without a bottle of antacids close by.
Musician's Friend Search Results 1.800.776.5173—Check out all the bongos! From $30 to over $300. (We got ours at a yard sale for a quarter of the original price.)
Latin Percussion, Inc.—A treasure trove of bongo information, with indepth information about playing, tuning, and history. Other percussion, too.
Rhythm Web—Another site with a huge amount of information about bongos and a myriad of other percussion instruments, especially of African origin.
Bongo Antelope—Okay, you won't find out anything about the drums here, but this site features many of the endangered animals of the rain forest, one of which happens to be called the bongo.
