Southeast Arizona is mostly desert and mountains, but the higher elevations help to moderate the temperatures, making it cooler than nearby Tucson and a lot cooler than the more distant Phoenix. Still, the dry heat can be oppressive in the afternoons, so it's good to have an eye out for an air-conditioned building of some sort if you're outside.
Tourism plays a part in the success of some of the area towns. Bisbee and Tombstone are two examples. Not much going on in them except for sightseeing. They are picturesque little villages, though, in a Wild West sort of way. If you like the cigar-chomping, chap-wearing, spur-jangling lifestyle, then this is a nice place to stop over.
There is a lot of Native American art going on, too, not to mention the modern-day artists who try to make a living from the tourist dollar. Some is good, and some is not so good. You decide.
Our little town has a weekly flea market that we took the chance to participate in one day. A little less hassle than running a yard sale from our apartment condo.
Check out my Fort Huachuca page for more about the area activities. =]
